Bamburgh is the the perfect self catering holiday cottage village and a Stay Northumbria Cottage is the ideal base.
Its the archetypal "castle estate village" with Bamburgh Castle, once home to the Kings of Northumbria, sits majestically on a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea.
The beach below the castle signals the start of one of the most popular seaside walks here, 5 miles to Beadnell Bay, an ideal jolly there and back for enthusiastic walkers and particularly dog owners - yes our beaches here are dog friendly.
Bamburgh also houses the Grace Darling Museum, which celebrates the day in September 1838 when she and her father rowed out in a storm and saved nine lives from the SS Forfarshire; she became a national heroine and became the inspiration behind the present day RNLI. Grace died a few years later at the young age of 27 and is buried in Bamburgh Churchyard.
Bamburgh Castle Golf Club is one of the finest courses on this stretch of coastline, some say in the country, with spectacular views from every tee-box and green.
The village of Bamburgh has some excellent pubs and restaurants. Try Blacketts for that special night out, or for good beer and great value pub grub The Castle Inn its got a great family friendly beer garden. The Mizen Hotel and Lord Crewe Arms both have popular restaurants too.
All the Staynorthumbria properties have extremely well equipped kitchens so if you fancy eating in - then take a trip to Carter’s Butchers - home of the famous Bamburgh Banger, or try their home cured bacon. You might find it strange but they also sell the locally produced Proof of the Pudding - chocolate pud, you’ll have to spoil yourself. And for your fruit and veg and daily provisions Clarke’s garden nursery shop hits the spot, pick up a plant or two while your there.
