Northumberland Heritage Coast

Heritage, Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England and Staynorthumbria properties are ideally situated right in the thick of them

Self catering holiday cottages, houses and apartments in the heart of historical Northumberland from Stay Northumbria.

From Seahouses, three miles to the North you’ll discover Bamburgh Castle, capital seat of the ancient Kings of Northumbria and a fantastic backdrop for many modern day films, including Elizabeth I.

Further north along the coastline you will see Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island, renovated by Luchyns and approached by the tidal causeway. Lindisfarne is of course the seat of early Christianity where St.Aidan came from Iona,  and together with St. Cuthbert who made the Farne Islands his home, they initiated the spread of Christianity from these tiny islands, across the bredth of England and beyond.

To the South West is Chillingham Castle, famous for its Chillingham wild cattle, and to the South on the coast you will find the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, destroyed in the Wars of the Roses.

Inland sits Warkworth Castle overlooking Warkworth Village and 4 miles further inland at Alnwick lies the second largest inhabited Castle in England (Windsor being the largest).

A little inland from Seahouses and Beadnell are the Castles of Ford, Etal, Harbottle and Norham, all have their tales to tell from the days of the Border Reivers.
