On the Coast is Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island, visit the Farne Islands with a boat trip from Seahouses Harbour. Take a walk down to Low Newton-by the Sea and then on to the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Altogether there are 16 miles of dunes, sandy beaches and tidal rock pools held and protected by the National Trust for you to explore.
A little further inland you can visit St. Cuthbert’s Cave, deep in the Kyloe Hills a reputed resting place for Saint Cuthbert’s body as it was taken on its way from Melrose to its resting place in Durham.
Or take a trip to the Cragside Estate near Rothbury, it has the largest rock gardens in Europe, a fantastic display of Rhododendrons in early Summer, as well as having been the home of Lord Armstrong the victorian inventor responsible for founding the company Vickers Armstrong famous for building The Chieftan Tank.
Wallington Hall near Morpeth, is the largest complete country estate devoted to the National Trust.
