Description

This carefully modernised single storey cottage, frequently used by the owners, is a cosy retreat in a rural setting, yet only a short drive from the coast at Bamburgh with its magnificent castle and beach, or the historic Holy Island, just a few miles north.

Situated on the edge of a working farm just outside the old coaching village of Belford, Burn Bank Cottage is well placed for enjoying the delights of the local wildlife - around the farm deer and fox are often to be seen and from the cottage you can sometimes even spot red squirrels. The tranquil area is also a joy for bird-watchers with curlews, amongst others, frequently to be seen. From the doorstep there are lovely walks to be enjoyed, perhaps with your dog, along the open lanes or the footpath beside the stream up onto the moor behind. Back at the cottage the spectacular conservatory affords extensive countryside views behind the cottage, or cosy up to the traditional wood-burner in the sitting room.

Belford, less than two miles away, has a choice of pubs, hotel, newsagent, mini supermarket and craft shop with small gallery. Only a ten minute drive away is the small village of Chatton with an art gallery, post office/shop and a local pub, the Percy Arms. Why not call in on the way home from a day trip seeing Chillingham Castle, the Cup and Ring Marked Stones on Chatton Park Hill and the Wild Chillingham Cattle - all of which are only a short drive away from Burn Bank Cottage.

Reviews

We really enjoyed our time in Burn bank cottage, its a very homely and comfortable place. After a day of walking it was always a pleasure to come back ( home ).

Mrs C,

We really enjoyed being off the beaten track so to speak but still in range of all surrounding places to visit. The property was warm and well equiped and the conservantry was a boon. Views across the country side are stunning.

Mrs H,

Lovely cottage in a quiet location that gives easy access to the local area and has both Newcastle and Scotland within reasonable driving distance. The only reason I haven't put the location as "very good" as the road leading to it is a farm track that isn't very well maintained, so watch out for potholes. Otherwise would absolutely recommend it and it will be our first option for any further holidays in that part of the country.

Mr B,

The property itself is very well situated for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish borders. The setup worked well for us (family of 4 including two young children as well as a small dog) with two good sized bedrooms, a living room and conservatory. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped although the dishwasher was broken during our stay (owner was in the process of getting it fixed). Unfortunately the holiday cottage was let down by the poor quality cleaning which the owner is now aware about. We spent a good portion of the first day cleaning, particularly the bathrooms and dusting everywhere. If the cleaning situation is rectified we would recommend.

Mr W,

The property had not been cleaned properly toilet seat in ensuite was on floor, everywhere was thick of dust. No hoovering had been done, cushions left where people had been lying on them,Only thing that had been done was beds changed.Wasps on window ledges in conservatory, there must have been a wasps nest as we could not open the windows or doors flys and wasps lying on kitchen and bedroom windowsills. The garden was a mess as the grass had not been cut for weeks,I know it had rained but it was disgusting, workman did not turn up when they said they would.Owner of property is fully aware as I sent her photos which I understand she sent to original cottages.

Ms Annette S,

As mentioned and reported to you in October there was smell in the en-suite, some of the fixtures and fittings needed attention, the grass hadn't been cut for a few weeks ( although done few days before we left ) The main complaint was the fact we booked a fortnight buy had no change of bed linen for second week --- surely in cost of booking!

Mrs Linda P,

Burn bank is in a really nice location If you want peace and quite. Always clean on arrival

Mr Robert G,

Was a fantastic stay only a few minor things like whoever cleaned after the last guests didn't check as we found dirty trays and a plate in the oven and the bath had what looked like left over bubble bath/shampoo in the bottom of the bath like it had been spilled. And the dishwasher wasn't checked as the dirty bread knife was still in there. Shame but it's the simple things that van spoil things.

Mrs Nicki A,

Very disappointing first day and last day. Friday evening no water on no logs and no heating. Luckily a neighbour sorted the water and logs but heating not sorted until Saturday when we adjusted the boiler ourselves. Thursday morning not finished showering or breakfast when water again went off for maintenance 3 hours no notice given to us so just stuck with no water

Mrs Sally H,

A small thank you to Burn Bank for all the wonderful times we have enjoyed here. We look forward to spending many more and building wonderful memories

Past Customer,

This is our 4th visit to Burn Bank Cottage, as we really like both the cottage and it’s setting. A slight niggle this time was a lack of wooden spoons and oven gloves…(!)…making cooking a bit difficult …we left a note for the cleaners to pass onto the owners.

Ms Gabrielle P,

We have used this cottage on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed the peace and quiet. Also short drive away are some of the best beaches going.
