Testimonials

Most of our visitors take a few moments to write in our visitor books about their stay with us and what they have done while they were here.
The entries on this page and on the testimonials section of each cottage listing are real extracts from those books. You will see that we have many returning visitors and many who refer us to their friends and families.

We hope you enjoy reading about the many and varied things our visitors found to do while they were with us and that their comments about the cottages and the facilities in them will be useful to you.

Taylors Beadnell House Apts (5* Gold Award)
03/01/2012 Had a great time at Taylors Apartment, it truly lives up to it's 5 star s, everything you could ask for. A group of us had the apartment over the New Year and loved the open plan kitchen living room so we could all get together.
Area is lovely, had lovely walks along the beach to Seahouses.
Local pubs Craster Arms and Towers are great and make you feel welcome, will definitely be back, as couldn't ask for anything better!!!

No2 Cliff House Cottage
02/01/2012 The perfect place to start 2012!
The cottage has been warm and cosy and the perfect base for visiting Dunstanburgh Castle, Holy Island and walking the beach to Bamburgh.
The pint of milk was gratefully received when we arrived and the extra bits and pieces made it home from home.
We'll definitely recommend the cottage to friends and hope to return one day.

No3 Cliff House Cottages
31/12/2011 A really comfortable and quiet New Year.
Delighted with the lack of contact with the outside world!!!!
Thank you for the "welcome pack" and the warm room on arrival.

Thank you

Chesterdene House, Waren Mill
29/12/2011 Had a lovely week with our family and Holly the dog. We had a windy week Xmas week both inside and out (Sprouts).
Visited Holy Island and a bumpy sail to the Farne Islands to see Seal Colony and different bird life. Had a great time - RECOMMENDED!!
Chesterdene is a fab house well designed, furnished & comfortable.
Would love to come back in Summer.

No2 Cliff House Cottage
28/12/2011 What a perfect get away!!
A clean and welcoming cottage (as ever).
A wonderful surprise when we found out there were Christmas Eve fireworks on the harbour - which were noisy. colourful and spectacular. Christmas day filled with dog walking and a fantastic Christmas Day Lunch at The Warren House Hotel - highly recommended. Boxing day sales at the Metro Center and the 27th December exploring Berwick-upon-Tweed and the wonderful beach at Bamburgh.
Once again thank you for perfect accommodation which helped make this Christmas getaway on of the best ever - hardly any rain !!
We will of course be back again.
A happy New Year to all

Taylors Beadnell House Apts (5* Gold Award)
28/12/2011 (21 years coming to Beadnell House!) Yes!!!

Another great Christmas at Taylors - weather could'nt be more different than when we were here some time last year when it was snowing and freezing. This year warm - very windy. We have walked to Bamburgh, Seahouses, and back to Embleton beach.
For a visit The Craster Arms under new ownership again - very friendly and still allows dogs in.
The apartment is as good as ever really warm and comfortable and thank you again for the Christmas Tree and doggy treats.

Millkeeper's Cottage
27/12/2011 Dear Stay Northumbria team,
I am sure all my family and their partners will agree with me that in virtually all respects the property lived up to expectations. As I said on the questionnaire form. We thought the area and the house were both lovely, and the underfloor heating was a conspicuous novelty and success. If possible, we would certainly like to come again, though attempted repeats of good experiences can create hostages to fortune....
I hope that you all also had a good break,
Best wishes,
Bridget Fowler.

The Old Vicarage
09/12/2011 Sadly we have to leave tomorrow morning - have realised why it's called "Stay Northumbria" because that is just what you want to do!! We have had a wonderful time enjoying Alnwick, Bamburgh the beaches, the castles and topped by a stunning "home" to return to each day.
The reason for our visit was a day's shooting on the Alnwick Estate and this was a fantastic as we had dreamed for months that it might be. What an experience!!!
It has all been so happy and memorable!
We will be back!!

The Cartshed @ Westfield

Taylors Beadnell House Apts (5* Gold Award)
25/10/2011 Well firstly, we just loved the luxury and gorgeous decoration - attention to detail in the apartment, things like different wine glasses and plenty of crockery and pans all make for a 5 star feeling. The bedding, towels and our doggie welcome pack made this place somewhere we would come back to and recommend. A superb place for for a family break!

Chesterdene House, Waren Mill
22/10/2011 We've had a fantastic time again. The weather was very good and the house lovely as always. We've revisited some old favourites - Lindisfarne, Budle Bay, Bamburgh Beach - and ventured further afield - Beamish Museum was the highlight of the week for the children.
Hope to be back next year.

Hastings House
21/10/2011 Very comfortable, cosy and well equipped house. We had unexpectedly good weather most of the week - cold but bright and mostly dry. We really like this part of the world!

The Cartshed @ Westfield

Taylors Beadnell House Apts (5* Gold Award)
01/10/2011 This was our second visit to Taylors this time for a fortnight (a week simply isn't long enough!). The apartment is sumptuous and genuine five star luxury.
Our highlight this year:
Day trip to Edinburgh, taking the train from Berwick along the coast (and spent a small fortune too!!)
Visits to Wallington Hall, Floors Castle, Bamburgh Castle, and Alnmouth.
Discovered Eleanor's Byre on Coastal Route from Embleton (nice coffee cake and "gorgeous things")
Unseasonable weather in second week - fabulous!!

Poachers Retreat
30/09/2011 We've had an amazing weeks stay.

The weather has been almost tropical! The house is a home from home could not wish for any better facilities.

So much to explore in the surrounding area's will have to come back soon.

Best UK holiday so far.

No6 Cliff House Cottages
24/09/2011 Perfect little cottage, just yards from the harbour was the ideal location for our week of walks & ball throwing for our lovely little pooch Louie.
The beaches are the most magnificent I have any seen in this country, and when faced with an expanse of flat, golden sand that seems to stretch forever, there is no doubt there is nothing more breath-taking than our own country when the sun shines (which it did more often than the forecast suggested! )
Among the man highlights were the walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle, the wonderful Beadnell Bay, and the cosy Ship Inn near the beach at Low Newton by the Sea.
Don't forget to have a pint or two in the bar at The Olde Ship in Seahouses and the gorgeous home made pie at The Black Swan round the corner!

The Cartshed @ Westfield
18/09/2011 Everything one could expect from luxury accommodation, should have 6* rating!. Will definitely recommend to friends - must do's - a visit to Holy Island and a pint or two at the Ship Inn,Seahouses. A warm thank you.

Great location, 2 min's into Seahouses for Fish & Chips, an excellent meal The Ship Inn or a walk round the harbour, Bamburgh Castle, Cragside & Alnwick Castle and gardens are well worth a visit. Beach walks and paddling are a must, gaze over to the Farne Islands & take a trip over, especially May to July when birds are nesting - we'll know for next time. Northumberland is fabulous we've throughly enjoyed our stay.

No4 Cliff House Cottages
13/08/2011 The cottage is lovely, clean in a beautiful spot. Close to the harbour. Helpful staff, who introduced us to Alf who doggy sat for us when we went to Bamburgh Castle.

The Bothy (5* gold award)
29/07/2011 Beautiful cottage, with amazing conveniences provided.
"Pot-a-Doodle-Do" is a great attraction for chid and adults alike on not - so - nice days.
Barter Books in Alnwick is fantastic also. The leisure pool at Alnwick is much cheaper than Seahouses for a family.
Would love to come again in colder weather to have an excuse to get the log fire going!!
Thank you

No2 Cliff House Cottage
23/07/2011 We drove to Seahouses from Newton on Sat 16th July - it was one of the worst days we've ever had with windscreen wipers going at fastest speed nearly all the time, but the rain and spray made for a tiring journey.
What a revelation on arriving at No2 Cliff House Cottage - and what a little treasure with everything waiting for us to start our Northumbrian Holiday.

Subsequently it has proved to be a perfect gem in :-
1. Position, everything you need or want within minutes walking
2. Quiet and peaceful
3. Very comfortable

We've driven around the area and in our opinion the following are worth visits :-
1. Craster for sea food.
2. Bamburgh for history
3. Holy Island for history
4. Landing visit to the Farne Islands magical
5. The Olde Ship Inn beer and food are exceptional
6. Alnwick - The castle and new garden, The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers Museum.

Our only regret is that we have to leave on Saturday the 23rd of July 2011. We can't wait for our next visit.

Have a great holiday

Taylors Beadnell House Apts (5* Gold Award)
23/07/2011 We really enjoyed our week here - the apartment is elegant and spacious - very well equipped - even a picnic rucksack!
The surrounding area is beautiful - so many beautiful, unspoilt beaches - our daughter (age 5) just loved being on the beaches.
We ate out at The Beadnell Towers twice - really good food and very speedy service, even when busy. Also had a meal at The Craster Arms which was ok to.
We visited Alnwick Castle & Gardens which is expensive, but worth it - the gardens really are beautiful and your ticket allows you to go back for a second day - it is allot to get round in 1 day.
Tea & Scones delicious at the Copper Kettle at Bamburgh.
Would recommend the apartment. Welcome goodies were a nice touch - thanks.

Bamburgh Castle is an astonishing place and needs to be visited with Cragside to get the full picture of that amazing man William Armstrong.
Lindisfarne Castle was very appealing and the Priory well documented.

A long walk along the beautiful coastline from Beadnell to Dunstanburgh Castle and back.

All the rooms are spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished. The dining room provided a perfect setting for our party and we all had a very enjoyable time.... The Old Vicarage
04/01/2011 What a welcoming house; even the table was set for dinner. We have had a very comfortable week in a super house. Location ideal, quiet, close to pubs, beach and shop. Book a meal at the "Treehouse Restaurant" at Alnwick Castle: superb and good value. We have taken walks on the beaches and sampled quite a few of the local pubs @ lunchtime. Extremely comfortable beds; we all slept in late most days. The bouire neighbours are very quiet. The kids have dominated the "snug"; giving the adults peace and quiet to complete books, 2 jigsaws, GCSE marking and knitting....... Fantastic time had by all, thanks for letting us rent your wonderful holiday home.

We will be returning.

14/08/2010 There is nothing we can add. It would only add to the superlatives. I have been coming to Seahouses for more than 50 years but this has been my most enjoyable visit so far.

Kipper Cottage
14/08/2010 The day we came I was really exited, I hoped it would be brilliant... and it was!
My dad had started the holiday with a massive grumpy head. I don't know why, I don't think he knew why but whenever Mummy and I asked if he was exited he just frowned. He cheered up when we arrived, the cottage is fab - very comfy, it's so fab at night because it is so quiet - bliss. the seagulls wake us up in the morning.
I have loved it at Kipper Cottage it has been a great experience I'd love to come again. Thank you it's been the TIME of my life.
Fantastic visit to Alnwick Castle. Walk to Bamburgh beach terrific and Swallow Fisheries around the corner a real bonus. Off to Edinburgh Fringe tomorrow, top time.
It's been absolutely BRILLIANT thank you very much. i loved it at St Aidans Dunes it was fab, its been an adventure..... an exiting one. We thank you for making it.

Chesterdene House, Waren Mill
14/08/2010 We had a fantastic week. The house was nice and comfy and just the right size for the 8 of us (2 kids). We used to live in this area so it was great to see all of the places we remember such as the Copper Kettle in Bamburgh and the Windings beaches..... we had great food courtesy of Carter's Butchers - bangers a plenty! Try The Barn @ Beal, the Craster to Dunstanburgh walk and if it rains Alnwick and Berwick have enough tea shops to satisfy.

No1 Beadnell House
14/08/2010 Simply perfect! Been a busy year for us, started to wind down as soon as we set foot through the door - high quality, luxurious apartment awaited us. A huge thank you to the owners who certainly know how to spoil their guests. Ideal location; central to the village and on door step to beach (little boy's paradise) and next door to a lovely pub (mammy and daddy's little treat!!) Will be back and very happy to recommend. Will take some precious memories with us!

Kipper Cottage
07/08/2010 Thank you so much for letting us stay at Kipper cottage for the 2nd time. It was just as excellent as before. Enjoyed the walk to Bamburgh along the beach. Went to Alnwick Castle again. The Serpent garden was AMAZING !! All the water sculptures were spectacular to look at. we recommend Cragside because it's really interesting for adults and children. Also for horse lovers Slate Hall Riding School for confident riders or begginers.
We had a lovely stay hope we come back soon.

No4 Cliff House Cottages
31/07/2010 We've had a fantastic stay, a lovely cottage, in a great location, perfect for out two dogs and the weather was not unkind.
We recommend walking to the beach overlooking the bay near the caravan for finding a suitable place to sit with a bottle of wine or something fizzy ( we added the 4 champagne flutes to the cottage supply - £2.50 from the charity shop!) with a pack lunch box with smoked salmon slices, Philadelphia rolled up and cut into mini roullades with a lemon squeezed over them and black pepper - absolutely delicious.

179 Main Street

Kipper Cottage
17/07/2010 The cottage was the best we ever stayed in, it was clean and tidy and had everything we could possibly need!
It's the first time we've been to Northumberland and we have loved the lovely beaches and wildlife. We've enjoyed watching the Swallows swooping backwards and forwards to feed their young in the nest in the courtyard, so you don't even have to leave the cottage to watch wildlife.
Thanks for everything and would definitely love to visit Kipper Cottage again.

The Bothy (5* gold award)
17/07/2010 We've has a lovely restful week in The Bothy. Excellent accommodation, clean with all mod cons.
We've enjoyed watching the birds/nest just on the drain pipe at the French doors. The chick's havn't quite flown whilst we've been here.
The bay at Beadnell is as nice as any - and easy to get to across the the field (public footpath towards caravan site).
Had a fantastic meal at The Spice House in Seahouses - recommended. Enjoyed trips to Alnwick, Bamburgh, Holy Island and Boat trip.

Taylors Beadnell House Apts (5* Gold Award)
17/07/2010 A beautiful apartment - we would love to live here! Bamburgh and surrounding beaches as lovely as ever. The walk from Craster to Low Newton is recommended, the Ship is a classic pub and brew their own ales! Finally got to Kielder Water, a stunning 90 min drive from here. Beware of attempting the "forest drive" it is not suitable for normal cars. Good food to be found everywhere in pubs and local shops, a great week's holiday!

17/07/2010 ....In my view this coastline has so much to offer and costs nothing. Walking on Beadnell Bay, glorious sunshine, gale blowing, sand blasted and tide out - mind blowing. ...... Come rain or shine this coast varies from day to day, if you look for it it's there. Enjoy it its free.

Coastguard Cottage
02/07/2010
We have had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is just beautiful, with plenty of room for 3 couples who like their own space! If you get a nice evening take a bottle of wine up onto the hill right next to the garden and watch the sun going down - but don’t wear slippery shoes after a few glasses, as it’s quite steep! - our three year old doesn’t want to leave
Many thanks the Crosby’s

24/06/2010 Beautiful house, very comfortable and spacious, a pleasure to visit. Fab beaches. If you have dogs the best place is to go down the Windings, ample parking fresh water river for them to swim in and drink from when they get too hot..... Loved the BBQ shed. Thank you.

Kipper Cottage
19/06/2010 This has to be the best cottage we have ever stayed in - what a welcome pack! such a sinful Swiss Roll.
Did all our favorite trips - Holy Island - a boat trip to the Farnes, Bamburgh and the beautiful beaches. Best eats - The black Swan, Craster Arms in Beadnell and a super Sunday Lunch at the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh.
Must recommend the Armstrong Farming Museum at North Charlton - we must have been there over 2 hours and could have stayed even longer.
All the cottage facilities are wonderful and so peaceful even so close to the harbour and shops.
Wonderful walk on Cliff Top past caravan site to see the Kittewakes and their chicks.
We'll be back

28/05/2010 We had a lovely three generation family holiday. The accommodation was first class and contained everything we require, particularly impressed with the sharpness of the knives. We chose the property by visiting the web and it has lived up to it's description.

Coastguard Cottage
25/05/2010
What a beautiful location and wonderful cottage. The children enjoyed the space throughout and loved going to the beach, we enjoyed the village and surrounding area and hope to return soon, thank you so much

Taylors Beadnell House Apts (5* Gold Award)
24/05/2010 How fortunate we were to have found Beadnell, we had the most BEAUTIFUL WEDDING in the church and an apres pre-evening drinks reception with family and friends here in Taylors - ooozzzing elegance, charm and perfection. Everything was perfection and we will definitely return.

No4 Cliff House Cottages
17/05/2010 No4 has everything we needed or could have wished for and more! Even without a sea view its only two minutes to a bench gor evening wine + nibbles watching Farne boats returning.

The Farne Islands Tour and Landing was magical. We were lucky in the weather and timing to see so much seabird life at such close quarters. For nervous sailors the brand new Serenity Two is recommended.

A visit to the Alnwick Garden its a must - its horticulture on steroids.

Our culinary discovery was at Blacketts of Bamburgh - the Swallow of Seahouses Smokie Salmon with NZ Sauvignon Blanc was a perfect and memorable combination.

Although this is the fourth visit to Northumbria we plan to be back later in the year.

Many Thanks for a wonderful stay.

28/03/2010 WOW what a place, in one word FANTASTIC. You have gone the extra mile to ensure that all needs are catered for. The weather has ben good, cold but dry which helps. The two seperate SKY packages kept everyone from young and old amused kids cartoons, adult movies and sport. The welcome pack was a very nice touch and quickly consumed. Went for lovely walks on Seahouses, Beadnell and Newton by the Sea beaches sampling the local food and ale at The Ship in Newton. Hastings House will be highly recommended to family & friends.

09/10/2009 Well, what can we say? - Another lovely weekend in Seahouses and Northumberland. We came here 2 years ago and loved it !!! So, here we are again and I am sure we will be back next yeat!! - We fully understand how people stay here for much longer that is something we should do sometime eh?? Anyway a truley wonderful timehad by all and a fantastic evening meal at the "old Ship In". i also loved running from here along the superb, wild empty beach up to Bamburgh Castle and back! that cleared the cobwebs and made me realise how utterly superb it is to be alive!!!
Anyway cheers everybody - ENJOY.

Ryecroft Cottage
26/09/2009 “We have had a lovely stay in this wonderful cottage - well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean”

No3 Cliff House Cottages
25/09/2009 I've thoroughly enjoyed my week, the cottage is "just right"... it is very well appointed and very clean - thank you. But most appreciated, is the utter peace and quiet - although there are neighbours each side the thick walls give a sense of isolation...I'm out early with my little dog and to come out of the arch tob e greeted with a vista of sea (very tranquil at the moment) is extremely uplifting and what i came for. As other people have said, the location is wonderful - I've walked, bussed, and drank it all in. It is hard work managing and maintaining properties like these, but from the comments (and I agree) - we all appreciate it and will recommend and I will certainly come again.

Coastguard Cottage

08/11/2003 It's only the middle of our stay so I shouldn't be writing in this book yet I can't resist. Is it bad luck to write about the holiday before it is finished? We like the cottage. We like Seahouses. We are here quite by chance...... I had once been to Seahouses more than twenty years ago......
It is our last night we have supped on gourmet nut roast prepared in the compact and adequately equipped kitchen and are having a rest before desert, baked apples and double ginger ice-cream from the excellent "Northumbrian Hamper". We have sampled salmon steaks and of course, Seahouses Kippers from the "Swallow fish shop". We had to browse through cookery books in the Sue Ryder shop to find out how to cook them. We recommend "The Ship at Low Newton-by-the-sea and Dunstanburgh castle just a little further along the coast.

17/05/2003 A wonderful holiday, as before with everything we could possible need in the cottage. The addition of the bathroom heater was wonderful - thank you. We hope to return again. The welcome pack, as before was delightful.
