Skilfully converted from a former stable, this attractive cottage stands just 20 metres from a sandy beach in this traditional little fishing village. Boulmer was once the principal resort of smugglers from mid Northumberland and the Scottish Borders who collected smuggled spirits and silks and transported them overnight by pack horse. As recently as the late 19th century smuggled goods buried long ago were unearthed locally. The entire length of the Heritage Coast is easily accessible from this location. A short drive up the coast is Craster with it's attractive horseshoe shaped harbour. The village is renowned for the excellent oak smoked kippers produced in the smokehouse by the fourth generation of the Robson family. The impressive castles at Warkworth, Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh and Holy island and the attractive harbours at Beadnell and Seahouses are all within 20 miles. Alnmouth 3 miles south, has shops, pubs, restaurants and two golf courses. There is salmon and trout fishing on the Coquet and Aln Rivers and sea fishing trips are available from Craster and Amble. For walkers the coastal footpath between Alnmouth and Beadnell passes nearby. Boulmer has a pub which provides bar meals.
