Beautifully and thoughtfully designed seafront home in Beadnell on the stunning Northumberland coast. Portland sleeps up to 8 in 4 en-suite bedrooms with sea views, accepts one well behaved dog and has wi-fi . There is an enclosed rear garden, boot room, extremely well finished and equipped kitchen. The open-plan lounge/dining area has wood floors, the bedrooms are carpeted and the staircases are solid oak.

Beadnell itself has a small general store as well as 2 pubs/restaurants and is only 2 miles away from a variety of services in Seahouses and access to the Farne Islands by boat. Beadnell Bay with its small harbuor and long, wide sandy beach is a popular place for diving and watersports, as well as long coastal walks, both to the north and south of the village. Further afield you are 25 minute drive from Alnwick Castle and Garden and 4 miles south of Bamburgh and its Castle. To the south you can walk, hop a local bus or drive to the lovely bay at Embleton, visit the quirky Ship Inn with its micro brewery in the seaside square of Low Newton, or enjoy a trip to Craster famous for its Kippers.

Portland is a great property for family and friends' get-togethers, with an enclosed rear garden for outdoor entertaining, and immediate proximity to the sea.

Bringing your dog to Portland

Portland welcomes well behaved dogs (up to 2) @ £25 per dog per week or part thereof. When you book you will be asked to provide some information about your pet which will aide the owner in ensuring that the property is set up to welcome them.

A bit of K9 etiquette should be observed during your stay:-

  • Your pet should not be left in the property unattended (unless crated - crates can be hired)
  • Your pet should not be allowed in the bedrooms or on furniture
  • On booking for your pet, you are confirming that it is fully up to date on its flea treatment.
  • As our garden is finished with "astroturf" it is essential that you pick up after your pet, and if necessary hose down our "grass".

Although property was extremely warm and in an excellent location, we did experience several problems and found the lack of off road parking a nightmare as the house is on a blind bend! I think general housekeeping is the problem. On arrival I wanted to use the fridge in the laundry room and, on opening the door, a huge freezer box fell on my head! This had obviously been pushed up on top without consideration of whether there was enough safe storage space! A framed picture in one of the bedrooms fell off the wall onto the pillow! Good job my granddaughter was sleeping in another room. The wall fixture holding the rope from the ceiling clothes maiden was loose and dangerous and I had to report it. The management guy did come out the next day and tightened it. The kitchen blind was down on the window sill on our arrival, again I had to spend time emailing and calling the office. The kitchen window handle fell off and was a security problem. One of the showers had a broken shower head holder - this was reported and a new attachment was ordered but was never installed! This meant that the en suite for that bedroom couldn’t be used. The Venetian blind in the en Suite twin room was broken.Lots of crockery and drinking glasses were missing, again I spent time contacting the office as I wasn’t prepared to have money taken against these missing items. The baking sheets and grills were filthy. Tiny dishwasher, inadequate for 8 people. Too few pans. Garden is much, much smaller than shown on the website.

Wow what can I say about this house?! Absolutely fabulous - can't speak highly enough this property - it is gorgeous - looks recently refurbished to a very high standard and spotlessly clean - loved it from the moment we arrived. Haven't visited this area before, can totally see why so many people return. It is so quaint and peaceful and everywhere is dog friendly, we will definitely return. Loved it, loved it, loved it!!

We've stayed there twice before. The house as we knew, was very well equipped with some excellent items and gadgets. Bathrooms very nicely tiled and fitted out; showers good. It is just beginning to show a bit of wear and tare with some locks not working, some doors sticking, a few floors creaking. It was disappointing that the previous occupants (who we think were the owners) had turned off the hot water, which was boilingly hot when switched on, and left some items randomly stacked in the boot room/ garage. Also some of the kitchen surfaces were not as clean as they could be and there were crumbs under the breakfast bar and on the dining table. The water issue was resolved by the agents after the 3rd day. Location for beaches, village and sea views as always superb. Craster Arms pretty good for food and dog friendly; Saltwater Café has changed chef and staff since last visit---not as customer friendly as it was.

We arrived at Portland in the pouring rain, fortunately we know Beadnell so no problem. The house is beautiful, overlooking the sea and a short walk to the harbour, beach and pub. There was every comfort you could imagine, bit concerned about the astro turf and the dog though, but no problem there either. With two king and one twin bed on the first floor, all ensuite, it was perfect for Mum, Dad and the teenagers, whilst we had the second floor which gave us privacy when we required it. The kitchen and dining area were plenty big enough for us all, and there were games and cards to save us from TV viewing in the evening. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms spacious and well decorated. The only slight downside was the driveway as it was downright difficult to get two vehicles in, so one had to be parked across the road. The rental was slightly on the expensive side, but all in all well worth the extra, we all had a great time.

The house had everything we needed for a party of eight people, including two children who loved the play items in the shed. All the rooms were light, airy and comfortable and instructions for all the appliances were available. The weather was beautiful so we were able to enjoy the garden with the table and chairs and BBQ. The position was lovely with views of the sea to the front and a short walk/drive to the beach. We could not have asked for a better place to stay.
