Description
This traditional fisherman's cottage, built from local sandstone, is situated on a lane within 100 metres of the busy little harbour and beach of this picturesque Northumbrian fishing village. The cottage has recently undergone a complete makeover to an excellent standard with solid oak flooring in the lounge and a fabulous inglenook fireplace with a cosy log burning stove. Fishing still plays a significant role in the local economy, but nowadays most of the boats carry tourists to the National Trust seal and seabird sanctuaries on the nearby Farne Islands during the summer months. This is a fascinating sight especially during the breeding seasons. 3 miles north is the impressive Bamburgh Castle and 6 miles beyond that, Holy Island or Lindisfarne, reached by a causeway at low tide. The coastline in this region is characterised by some splendid sandy beaches, the nearest being within walking distance. There are several golf courses in the area and horse riding and fishing are available locally
