Hadrian's Wall Holiday Cottages

Walk in the footsteps of the Romans and explore some of the 73 miles of Hadrian’s Wall built over 6 years to guard the north-west frontier of the Roman Empire against attack. A great holiday location for walkers, cyclists and families as there are lots of trails and family-friendly visitor attractions to discover in this UNESCO World Heritage Site including Housesteads, Chesters, Birdoswald and Vindolanda.

Have fun exploring the remains of forts, towers, turrets and towns. See first-hand rare Roman artefacts found on the wall in visitor centres, take part in a live archaeological dig and children can have fun reenacting battles and dressing up in Roman costumes. Many of the sites are dog-friendly too meaning the whole family can enjoy the experience and sense of discovery.

The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre is an exciting new visitor attraction which has a wealth of information on walking routes and the heritage of the wall. Enjoy panoramic views of Hadrian’s Wall from the grass topped roof which offers splendid views across the landscape. There is also a café and gift shop on-site.

There are some spectacular views of the rugged landscape to be seen along Hadrian’s Wall and a visit to Sycamore Gap is not to be missed. Arguably one of the most iconic images along the Wall is a Sycamore tree which grows in a dramatic dip by Hadrian’s Wall.  Not only is it loved for its natural beauty and heritage but also famous for being featured in the movie Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves.

Hadrian’s Wall leaves a lasting impression on all who visit and is an inspirational landscape for many, including most recently writer George RR Martin who used it as inspiration for his on Wall in the series Game of Thrones.

Accessible for all, you can explore as much or as little as you like, as there are many walks and cycle trails to enjoy along the wall, both short and long. For keen walkers, there are many cosy and welcoming pubs along the way for you to relax and refuel before setting off to discover more of this wonderful and peaceful landscape with wildlife aplenty to spot along the way.

A self-catering holiday in Hadrian’s Wall Country is a great base from where you can discover this unique and unforgettable experience, with so much to see and do.
