Wooler Holiday Cottages

A small North Northumberland market town known locally as the ‘Gateway to the Cheviots’ lies on the edge of the Northumberland National Park and backed by the Cheviot Hills.

The town has a bustling high street, lined with traditional independent shops including lovely tea rooms, a local butcher’s shop, bakery, tourist information centre, pub restaurants and more!

A holiday cottage in Wooler, is a great choice for those wishing to explore the surrounding countryside on foot or by bike as there is an excellent selection of walking and cycle routes nearby taking you through the scenic Glendale Valley and further afield in the Northumberland National Park area.

Just over a 10-minute drive by car and you will find the 13th century Chillingham Castle, which is considered one of the most haunted castles in Britain and is well worth a visit (if you are brave enough!). Explore the state rooms, eerie dungeon and torture chamber in the castle and also the beautiful grounds, lakes, fountains and tea rooms.  It may well be a Northumberland experience you won’t forget. Close by is Chillingham Wild Cattle park where you observe one of the most unique and truly wild, herd of cattle in the world.

Each August Bank Holiday, Wooler attracts lots of visitors to its the popular Glendale Show. A great fun filled family event which celebrates rural life and has a variety of attractions on the day including sheep racing, animal shows and there are some local arts and crafts stalls for you to enjoy browsing.

Spend time also exploring the nearby town and villages, just 15 mile north of Wooler and you can visit the wonderful Scottish Borders and just to the south you will find the Ford and Etal Estate which has a variety of attractions on the estate including the Heatherslaw Light Railway, Etal Castle and the Heatherslaw Bakery to name but a few. There are also the scenic coastal and countryside towns and villages of Bamburgh, Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Seahouses, Rothbury and Alwinton, all within a 30-minute drive, providing you with plenty of options for great days out while holidaying in Wooler.
