Description

This first-rate cottage stands in a pretty enclosed garden on an elevated site over-looking the Allendale Valley. Created from a derelict barn, the cottage has been lovingly rebuilt using stone from the original building. The warm and cosy interior offers spacious family accommodation ideal for those who enjoy walking and cycling. It is very centrally placed for exploring Weardale, the Lakes and Cumbria. Durham with its magnificent cathedral is a 25 miles drive through superb countryside, whilst 25 miles to the west the Lake District can be reached by a similarly scenic route. 16 miles north is the attractive market town of Hexham with its mediaeval abbey, and beyond that some of the best preserved sections of Hadrian's Wall. The North Pennines, described as 'England's Last Wilderness' has been designated an Area of Outstanding National Beauty, and supports many rare species of birds and plants. It is also an Area of Tranquility. There are excellent local walks and the C-to-C cycleway passes nearby. Allenheads is 1 mile.

Ground floor - Cosy lounge with log burning stove and TV, wireless music system, CD player, and telescope to enjoy the panoramic views and the sky at night. The spacious dining/kitchen with stone flagged floor and dining table. The kitchen is very well equipped with electric range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. From the rear of the kitchen there is a door out to an alleyway. Cloakroom with WC.

First floor - Bedroom 1 - Light and airy double aspect bedroom with king-size bed.
Bedroom 2 – Twin Bedded Room with build in wardrobe.
Bedroom 3 – Twin Bedded Room. All bedrooms have fantastic views across the valley. Bathroom has bath, separate shower, bidet, sink and WC.

ACCESSIBILITY GUIDE FELL VIEW COTTAGE SPARTYLEA, NORTHUMBERLAND

Welcome

At Fell View Cottage we want to make our visitors stay as enjoyable as possible and are committed to providing suitable access for all our guests whatever their individual needs. We aim to accurately describe our facilities to give you confidence in having a memorable stay.

Level Access

Unfortunately the gravel driveway and steps into the front door to the cottage are not suitable for wheelchairs at present. With all the sleeping accommodation on the first floor this is also a hindrance to wheelchair bound guests.

By road

From the  A69 Carlisle to Newcastle Road turn South onto the A686 at Haydon Bridge continue for around 3 miles then turn left on to the B6295 and follow this road through to Catton and then Allendale. In Allendale take the B6295 where it turns right in the middle of the village and continues on through Sinderhope to Spartylea. About ½ a mile after Spartylea there is row of cottages on the right before which is a red postbox on a pole where you turn right. The cottage is about 50 yards down on the left.

Parking

There is sufficient space in the driveway for up to 3 cars.

Shopping Facilities

Hexham is about 13 miles away and there are large Tesco and Waitrose stores both of which will deliver to Fell View. Allendale has a well-stocked Co-Operative, a butchery and post office and is 5 miles away.

Access to the Cottage

There is a key to the back door which is located in the security box next to the back door.

Mobile Phone Coverage

Being in a fairly remote location mobile networks are limited but the three networks that do work that we know of are Vodaphone, Orange and EE.

WIFI Connectivity

Plusnet broadband is available in the cottage and the password for using this is on the underside of the router which is plugged in next to the dining table.

HiFi and Radio

There is a Bose Speaker system in the living room which may be linked by Bluetooth to your mobile devices to play music or radio. There is also a DAB radio in the main bedroom. Note that reception for this is poor on the ground floor but fine upstairs. Hairdryers are provided in two of the rooms.

Welcome Tray

A welcome tray with milk, sugar, tea and coffee will be waiting for you on arrival.

Fuel for the Fire and Heating

There will be wood and coal for the fire in the receptacles in the hearth which can be replenished from the coal bunker and woodshed during your stay. Firelighters and matches are in the hearth.

Heating for the house is provided by an electric storage heater system with a heater in each room. These will have been set at a comfortable level for your stay in advance of your arrival. Hot water for the bathroom, kitchen and cloakroom is provided by an immersion heater which will be switched on before your arrival and off when you leave.

The cost of all above is included in your accommodation payment.

Information File and Visitors Book

There is a folder with information and instruction manuals on various items in the Cottage together with a Visitors Book which you are kindly ask to fill in at the completion of your stay. Any criticisms that you may wish to make will be welcome and addressed to the best of our ability.

Waste Disposal

There are two bins in the kitchen one for general waste and the other for recyclable waste except for bottles. The outside wheelie bins are green for general waste and black for recyclable. Collections are on Thursdays and alternate between recyclables and general waste. There is a recycling centre in Allendale where bottles can be left and this is open during normal working hours Thursday to Monday inclusive.

For the Little Ones

There is a Safety Gate at the top of the stairs and a High Chair and travel cot available.

Reviews

Welcome Pack much appreciated. Endless supplies of day to day essentials, above and beyond that expected, especially logs, toiletries. Good size fridge and freezer. Charming cottage that made Christmas very homely and cosy. Whole process was seamless and the property met and exceeded our expectations.

Mr Steve C,

A real home from home which was really well equipped. The bedrooms were really comfy and the log burner was fab. Great location and views
