    A great family holiday house located in the hamlet of Humbleton near Wooler, on the border of the Northumberland National Park, Homildon is an extremely attractive traditional cottage dating back to the early 1800's. Nestled in a secluded hollow, it provides a sense of isolation while still being within easy reach of local amenities. A bridleway leads from the door into the National Park and the famous St Cuthbert's Way.

    The large rear garden offers a peaceful haven looking out onto historic Homildon Hill. The current owners use the property regularly as a retreat, and have updated the facilities to meet the expectations of today's holiday makers.

    • Well behaved dogs** and children are welcome at Homildon however, please note that the garden whilst for the most part is fenced with agricultural stock wiring, is not fully secure and there is an unfenced pond and wildlife area adjacent to the property (not part of Homildon's land).
    • The adjacent fields often have livestock in them and you are asked to observe the Country Code in particular the guidance on dogs, children and livestock.
    • Homildon uses a septic tank
    • The property is fully non-smoking including the stable/games room.
    • A good housekeeping bond of £150 is required to be lodged during your stay.

    Homildon is situated in a quiet rural location just beyond the hamlet of High Humbleton. A bridleway leads from the door into the National Park and the famous St Cuthbert’s Way.

    The market town of Wooler is just over a mile to the east, well within walking distance or a short drive. Wooler offers all the local amenities one would expect from a market town including a late-opening Co-Op supermarket, bank, deli, Post Office, pharmacy, butchers, bakers, restaurants and several excellent local public houses. The local Doddington Dairy produces excellent cheese and ice creams. Buses connect to Berwick, Alnwick, Morpeth and Newcastle while “Ron’s Taxis” offer a convenient local service.

    Wooler hosts the Cheviot Centre and many popular events through the year such as the Glendale Show and the Wooler Wheel. Early visitors included Daniel Defoe, Sir Walter Scott and local heroine Grace Darling. The magnificent backdrop of Humbleton Hill is mentioned in the opening scenes of Shakespeare’s Henry IV.

    The rugged beauty of the Cheviot Hills and renowned River Tweed form a picturesque border with Scotland as well as offering wide-open spaces within the National Park which is literally a few paces from our front door. In 2013, the park was awarded gold tier designation by the International Dark Sky Association – making it officially the best place in England for stargazers to enjoy the heavens.

    The foothills with their quiet back roads and bridleways are ideal for many activities, including cycling, horse riding, fishing and rock climbing. The 900ft high Humbleton Hill is capped by an Iron Age hill fort, one of many in the area. Close by is Chillingham Castle and the Ford and Etal Estate with its Heatherslaw Light Railway, Corn Mill and English Heritage Castle. Explore the famous Flodden battlefield, Maelmin Heritage Trail and the 4,500 year old Duddo standing stones.

    The main A697 road lies to the North of Humbleton and runs round the edge of Wooler. This links Northumberland to the Scottish Borders and gives easy access to both Edinburgh and Newcastle. The coastal town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is only 18 miles to the north where there is a main line railway service and further amenities including an M&S, Tesco’s and PC World.

    To the east of Homildon is the magnificent coastline of Northumberland, which is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The magnificent east coast provides a mixture of sandy beaches, historic castles and the world class bird sanctuary of the Farne Islands, with the historic castles at Bamburgh and Lindisfarne about a half hour drive away.

    Wooler has a 9 hole golf course with other excellent links nearby including Belford, Goswick, and Bamburgh. Shooting is available locally with first class grouse shooting in the Lammermuirs and Cheviot Hills together with many organised pheasant and partridge shoots. Nearby the River Till, a tributary of the Tweed provides productive salmon and trout fishing.
