    Rob and Claire

Owners Rob & Claire have lovingly built Tarset Tor to make the most of the wonderful country side whilst impacting as little as possible on the immediate surroundings. This purpose built eco-holiday settlement sits comfortably in its surroundings, providing thoughtfully planned 21st-century accommodation to guests looking to explore this rich and diverse area, delighting backpackers, families and adventure junkies alike.
The timber eco-buildings integrate effortlessly into their natural surroundings, making the most of this remarkable location and providing the perfect base for any outdoor adventure.

Rob and Claire explained to us when we first visited Tarset Tor that they work hard to keep their carbon footprint to a minimum, using renewable resources, buying locally and encouraging the use of greener forms of transport in their everyday lives. " That's why we encourage the sorts of visitors who come here - walkers, cyclists, people who want to enjoy everything this fantastic landscape has to offer, from the babbling brooks, the forest, the moorland, the wide open spaces and of course the Dark Skies. Plus our close proximity, just over an hours drive to the stunning Northumberland beaches and the many castles that adorn the county"
Set within five acres on the fringe of Kielder Forest in the heart of the Northumberland National Park.

?At Tarset Tor, visitors can explore the area on foot and by bike from a base that’s rooted in the countryside.

The Tor has a wetland/pond (with fishing for kids coming soon) and wooded meadow to encourage the proliferation of flora and fauna; here and in the nearby Kielder Forest, you’ll have lots of opportunities to observe the local wildlife, including ospreys, wild goats, red squirrels and deer.

Set in the Gold award winning National Park Dark Sky area, the darkest in Europe and ideal for stargazers. With vistas extending right to the Scottish Borders and the Tyne Valley.

"Excellent place for large groups to stay!! This was a great place to stay for a large group. 20 of us stayed here. It was a very comfortable place. There are 4 room which sleep 5 people. A large kitchen diner with a real fire going. 3 showers and 2 loos. Perfectly adequate for a big group of people. It was very clean. A sauna can also be hired. The location is great and is within easy reach of some great walks. Kielder is a great place to visit. The owners help out in any way they can to make it easier for anyone visiting. They would have taken in our shopping and put the frozen stuff in the freezer if we had needed, from the Asda home delivery. It well worth the visit big or small group!"

"Made to feel totally at home by the owner Rob who is a very chilled out chap that nothing is too much bother, he clearly loves his work at the bothies. Our dogs were so relaxed being allowed off lead from the off, beautiful pond and jetty for them too walk alongside. The accommodation comes with everything you need bar food and drink. The wood pellet burner is amazingly warm and plentiful supply of pellets included. Kitchen is fully equipped with pans/crockery/washing up equipment etc & tea/coffee making kit. Logs/charcoal are available to buy from Rob if you wish for outdoor fires and BBQS. Eggs available to buy from the owner but we had brought our own. Bedlinen/pillows/duvets is included and you make up the beds you require on arrival. Nice ecofriendly soap bar included. Views from the hill are beautiful and sunrise/sunsets are amazing. Only small problem I had was our older dog couldn't manage the big step on the patio and needed a lift up but he managed the smaller side doorstep ok and it in no way altered the enjoyment we had from the holiday. Worst part was leaving the place as the week flew by. My daughter and the dogs are positively depressed back at home here so we will be booking to return as soon as we can. - Sept 2016"

"Just back from an amazing weekend in the bunkhouse. Rob and his wife made us feel so welcome and relaxed. The bunkhouse is just perfect for what we wanted. Fully stocked kitchen with everything you need to cook large meals. Plenty of seating. Pool table. Amazing views. The outside bar area with fire pits were fab. The best part of the weekend was going to the top of the hill and stargazing, we all saw quite a few shooting stars. Amazing place we have fell in love and cant wait to come back. - April 2017"

"Brilliant Weekend Enjoyed By All!! - We stayed in the bunkhouse (4 families, 8 kids in total ranging from 6-10yrs) and my parents and sister plus husband stayed in one of the bothy properties. We were here for 3 nights over the NYE weekend. We had an absolutely brilliant time and the accommodation worked perfectly for us. We were a little worried about being cold but the bunkhouse was nice and warm all the time and we could 'boost' the heating whenever we wanted. The cooking facilities were good enough for us to cook decent meals for 20 people and the table was plenty big enough for us all to sit around. The bedrooms were big enough for us to store all our gear and the beds were reasonably comfortable. The area itself is beautiful and the star show at nightime was awesome. The kids (and men!) especially loved making a fire in the fire pit up at the woodland bar area and then toasting marshmallows! All in all it was a really enjoyable stay for all of us and I will definitely be recommending it to my friends."
