The village of Rothbury known as ‘the capital of the Coquetdale’ is a popular choice with holidaymakers as there are lots of amenities in the village itself and some great walks around the area including the Simonside Hills, the Cheviot Hills and gentle riverside walks. There is also a golf course and swimming pool in the village as well as some great restaurants and traditional pubs.  

Just outside the village of Rothbury, lies Cragside House, Gardens and Estate, the former home of Lord Armstrong – the great Victorian Industrialist who was the first to power a house with hydroelectricity. A day out exploring this National Trust property is strongly recommended. Step back in time and explore inside Cragside House before choosing one of the many walks you can do around the vast Estate, including scenic woodland and lake walks. There is a lovely café and gift shop and fantastic adventure play areas for the children including a maze trail with wooden sculptures and lots of picnic spots. As with most of Northumberland, the Cragside Estate is dog-friendly ensuring no member of the family misses out.

The market town of Alnwick is within easy reach due to its central Northumberland location and should not be missed during your stay. Famous for the much-loved Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden, this historic market town promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family.
