The area towards the north of the county offers the opportunity to stay in some of the quaint rural villages whilst being close to good road links to explore the rest of the county.

Wooler is a small market town on the northern edge of Northumberland National Park and is an ideal place to stay if you are interestred in Dark Skies.

The villages of Fenwick and Lowick are close to the estate villages of Ford and Etal, the iconic Holy Island accessible only via causeway at low tide, and the border towns of Berwick upon Tweed, Jedburgh and Hawick.

To the south explore the Tyne Valley & Hadrian's Wall, or do a little retail therapy at the market towns of Hexham & Corbridge, and the Metrocentre for all the high street brands and more.  Or try Newcastle a city for culture, entertainment, shopping and dining with its Quayside village with coffee shops, bistro's and gastro pubs,  even its own little beach along the riverside with its 5 famous bridges including the Eye linking Newcastle to Gateshead.
